Our Services

Home extensions and additions that look like they belong

Extra bedrooms, second storeys, lounge extensions, ensuites, and full additions across the Waikato — matched to the home you already have.

A finished Finer Builds residential build — the same construction standard we bring to extensions and additions.

Our process

From the first walk-through to the keys

  • We come to your home and look at what's there — section size, existing structure, services, the council overlay. We talk through what you'd like the extension to do and flag anything (boundaries, height-in-relation-to-boundary, structural surprises) that affects scope.

On-site framing work during a residential extension build.
A finished extension matching the original home's character — what good join-work looks like from the street.

Why choose us

What sets us apart

Extensions are the work that separates careful builders from the rest. Anything that runs across the old / new junction has to read as one home — joinery, cladding, rooflines, paint colours, deck levels.

  • Matched, not patched

Cladding sourced to match the existing weatherboards. Roofing pitched to read with the original. Window joinery picked to look part of the same family. The kind of detail you only see if it's wrong.

  • Weathertight at the junction

Where the new section meets the old is where leaks start. We detail the flashings, head-cuts, and cladding overlaps to the same standard a new build's exterior gets.

  • Consents handled

Every extension needs consent. We lodge it, manage council back-and-forth, and coordinate the engineer when the existing structure needs strengthening.

  • Liveable during build

Most families stay in the house through the extension. We seal the work zone, run a separate construction entry, and minimise dust and noise into the rest of the home.

Client story

We added a master suite and ensuite to the back of our 1960s home. Finer Builds matched the brickwork and roofline so well that visitors don't realise it's an addition.

Recent additions across the Waikato — extensions that read as part of the original house, not as bolt-ons.

An added ensuite — extension matched to the existing home's character.

FAQs

Your questions, answered

Quick answers to the questions we get asked most. If yours isn't here, drop us a line — we love a curly one.

  • Realistic ground-floor extension cost is $3,500–$5,500 per m² in the Waikato — so a 30sqm bedroom + ensuite addition runs $105k–$165k. Second-storey additions are more expensive per m² ($5,500–$7,500) because of structural reinforcement to the existing house. Read our full cost guide for the breakdown.
