Who we are
Rooted in
the Waikato.
The story starts with Paul. He's been building in the Waikato since 1982 — over forty years on the tools, across new builds, renovations, and commercial fit-outs. That experience is the foundation Finer Builds is built on. His son AJ followed him into the trade, and together with AJ's wife Tanya — who runs the business side of the operation — founded Finer Builds out of Te Awamutu. Three generations of building know-how on the same job site.
We're Māori-owned, NZCB-certified, and registered with Waikato-Tainui Puna Pakihi and Amotai. The certifications matter — they're how procurement and council know we're the real thing. But the standards behind them matter more.
What we believe is simple: better building creates finer living. Every job runs through the same process — honest pricing, clear contracts, weekly updates, and workmanship we back in writing. Whether it's a $30k bathroom or a $1.5m new build, the standard is the same.

The Allisons.
Three generations of building know-how, on the same job site. Paul started Finer Builds' lineage on the tools in 1982. AJ followed him into the trade; Tanya brought the business side together. Today they run every project as a whānau. Same standard, same people, every time.

On the tools since 1982, over 40 years of building experience across the Waikato. Paul is the foundation of Finer Builds and the quality-control conscience for every job we run.
AJ Allison
Co-owner / Build Principal
On the tools across residential and commercial work, with a sharp eye for the details that separate a good build from a great one. Learned the trade under Paul and carries it forward.
Tanya Allison
Managing Director
Runs the business, the client relationships, and day-to-day operations. If you're talking to Finer Builds, you're probably talking to Tanya first.
